ECSL Commissioner Addresses APC Allegations Regarding Voter Register

In response to recent allegations by the All People's Congress (APC), Commissioner Moseray of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) has provided a detailed clarification. According to a report by Awoko, Moseray emphasized the measures taken by the ECSL to ensure transparency and accuracy in the election process.

On election day, the ECSL provided all political parties with software to cross-check their records both physically and online. Voter information was publicly displayed to further ensure transparency. Commissioner Moseray highlighted that political stakeholders were consistently invited to engage with the ECSL at various stages of the election process, allowing them to observe, examine action plans, and collaborate on next steps.

“The voter register was equally shared with political parties. The final list of the voter register was with them,” stated Moseray. She questioned the claims regarding the publication of the disaggregated data list, asking, “What is the definition of the publication of disaggregated data?”

Moseray also noted that each political party received a soft copy of the voter register, encompassing all regions from Freetown to the most remote villages. Printed copies were provided to party agents and made available at the ECSL center.

During the verification process, individuals were able to check their names and faces. To increase transparency, the ECSL enlarged the font size of the aggregated voter list from 10 to 15. “It is impossible to say that we disenfranchised anyone,” Moseray asserted. “We can defend this every day and every time. It has never happened, and it will never happen.”

The ECSL's comprehensive approach aimed to uphold the integrity and transparency of the electoral process, addressing concerns and ensuring that all stakeholders were adequately informed and involved.
