Paramount Chief of Gbense Chiefdom Speaks on Local Tax Collection

On August 21, 2024, Paramount Chief Komba Sangor Korgbende Kaimachainde IV of Gbense Chiefdom addressed the public from his residence in Koidu City. He spoke about the recent increase in local tax collection efforts, which has raised concerns among residents due to the heightened presence of checkpoints enforcing tax payments.

The Chief explained that these measures are necessary to ensure that everyone contributes their fair share. He praised the people of Gbense Chiefdom for actively participating in the tax-buying process and emphasized that the money collected from local taxes is vital for running the Chiefdom and supporting local and federal development projects.

He also mentioned the ongoing partnership with a mining company that is set to begin operations in the Chiefdom. Although there have been delays due to some unresolved issues, he remains hopeful that these will be resolved soon. Once the mining operations start, they are expected to significantly increase the Chiefdom’s revenue and contribute to its growth.

In his final remarks, the Paramount Chief urged residents who have not yet paid their taxes to do so quickly. He reassured them that the increased police presence at the checkpoints is part of an effort to emphasize the importance of paying taxes. This initiative is crucial for securing the funds needed for the Chiefdom’s development and administration.

The Paramount Chief stressed that collecting local taxes is essential for the future success of Gbense Chiefdom and called on the community to support these efforts.
